WHAT: 56th Jacksonville Amateur Championship

WHO: Conducted by Jacksonville Area Golf Association (JAGA)

DATES: July 20-22, 2017

HOST: Jacksonville Golf & Country Club (Hodges Blvd., Jacksonville, Fla.)
Ray Barr, Jr. – Host Head Professional, course length 6,892 yards

FIELD: 78 players (maximum)…the majority of players reside in JAGA’s
North Florida  region, with approximately 13 players residing in other
parts of the  state, including Miami, Tampa, Orlando, Jupiter and Daytona Beach.

FORMAT: 54 holes, stroke play…one 18-hole round each day…a 36-hole cut
to the low half of the field and ties after the second round.

2016: Philip Loeb (Ponte Vedra Beach/TPC Sawgrass/Elon College)
defeated John  Lobb (Jacksonville/Jacksonville Golf & CC) with a birdie
on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff. Both finished 54 holes with
2-under-par 214 totals at host Queen’s Harbour Yacht & Country Club.
Loeb and Lobb are entered this year.

ELIGIBILITY: Amateur golfers with a verifiable USGA index of 9.0 or below
are eligible to compete. Entrants must be at least 16 years of age by
June 30, 2017.

WAGR: For the second year in a row, the Jacksonville Amateur Championship
is being recognized by the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and
will award points to the Championship’s top finishers.

+ Of the 77 entries received at the deadline, 51 of the handicap indexes submitted are plus figures or less than 1.0. Only eight of the 77 are 4 or higher.
+ 8 high school players are entered, along with 14 college players, representing the University of Florida, Elon University, Brewton College, Flagler College, Valdosta State, Barry University, Queen’s University, University of Central Florida, Emory-Riddle College, Randolph-Macon College and Stetson University.

ABOUT JAGA:
Established in 1954, JAGA celebrates its 64th year in 2017. It is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (4) corporation comprised of over 40-member golf clubs located in the Northeast Florida area. JAGA’s mission is to promote golf and goodwill through tournaments and related events and activities. It conducts 10 tournaments, including five championship events and five others that feature team formats. JAGA manages a scholarship program that annually provides college funding for 26 area students. Since 1974 the program has generated approximately $1.7 million in financial aid to approximately 300 students.
